The herd of horses that you see running freely in the foot hills of the Rockies are some of the best equine massage teachers in the world. When we measure how a student is doing with their presentation of the massage work, we first look to the horses because we see you reflected in their interaction with you. Are they listening to you intently with a calm demeanor and a trustful countenance or are they restless and fidgety?
We dont use this information to grade you down the scale or up the scale. We simply use the horses feedback as a way to help you to look to the horse. A calm and trustful demeanor says the way you are going is just right because the horse is really enjoying the work you are doing. A restless fidgety horse often times just doesnt understand what he should be doing because your touch isnt conveying a congruent message and the horse is uncertain as to your intention.
Both of these views are wonderful because you get direct feedback as to the quality of your massage. They teach you when it is right and they teach you when it needs to be adjusted. Through my years of working with horses, I can tell you that a large percentage of what we study in theses classes are lessons horses have taught me about my practice. The horses are your best teachers.
